Thanks for posting this, both the issue and the guide I'm with you. Beyond flolew WordPress bloggers, if the comment process is complicated by requiring registrations or plugin downloads, I just don't leave a comment. Forms like yours, where it asks you for a name and email address, are filled after a couple of letters by my browser's autofill settings, which makes it very nice. And I lol'd at the Geocities comment.
