Six Apart lanceert gratis open source Akismet alternatief om blogspam te bestrijden

Ik had er nog niet over geblogd (voor de redenen, zie mijn vorige bericht) maar vorige week werd TypePad AntiSpam boven de doopvont gehouden, een nieuwe, gratis service van Six Apart om spam in de reacties en TrackBacks op weblogs te bestrijden.

Het werkt ongeveer op dezelfde manier als Akismet van concurrent Automattic (de API is zelfs compatibel): elke reactie of TrackBack wordt via een API aan de service voorgelegd, die er vervolgens een 'spamscore' aan toekent waar de blogsoftware dan iets mee kan doen.  Bij verkeerde classificatie is het ook mogelijk dit te melden in één klik, waardoor het systeem bijleert uit z'n vergissingen en op termijn alsmaar beter wordt.

Gebruikers van TypePad kennen het systeem al, want het zit ondertussen al zo'n jaar ingebouwd in de service.  Maar vanaf nu zijn er ook plugins voor Movable Type en WordPress beschikbaar en is het mogelijk door eenvoudigweg een URL en een API key te vervangen TypePad AntiSpam te gebruiken op elk systeem dat met de Akismet API overweg kan.

Volgens TechCrunch is de betrouwbaarheid even goed of zelfs beter dan Akismet (en je kan de twee systemen zelfs naast elkaar gebruiken), maar het grote voordeel is dat TypePad AntiSpam volledig gratis is en blijft, hoe groot het aantal reacties op je blog ook is of hoeveel geld je er ook mee verdient.
