Alsnog even een kort verslagje bloggen van mijn trip naar de Tour vorig weekend. Zoals eerder geschreven was onze nieuwe vierwieler recent aangekomen in de garage, en moest die dus dringend getest worden. Vorige vrijdag na het werk afgezakt naar Ekeren om mijn broer op te pikken. Lading: een tent, wat slaapzakken, een veldbed, een hangmat, twee kampeerstoelen, een instant-barbeque, twee bakken bier, een koelbox vol Nalu en een ton snoep voor onderweg.

Mijn broer gooide daar nog 't een en 't ander bij, en weg waren wij. Na een uur of drie was het tijd voor onze eerste tussenstop in Frankrijk. Junkfood time!
We reden heel de nacht en rond een uur of zes waren we in Les Cabannes, het laatste dorpje voor de slotklim naar Plateau de Beille. Heel de streek stond al vol kampeerwagens, en de laatste vijftien kilometer van het parcours waren wegens de grote drukte al afgesloten door de gendarmerie!
Mijn broer dook snel even de plaatselijke bakker en Spar binnen en even later vonden we een paar kilometer voor het dorpje een parkeerplaats. Blijkbaar was men van plan daar een industrieterrein neer te poten want de toegangsweg en electriciteitscabines stonden er al, maar de bedrijven nog niet. Prima kampeerplek dus.
Nadat de tent en het veldbed in elkaar zaten ging mijn broer nog wat pitten op de achterbank terwijl ik nog wat bomen ging doorzagen in de tent. Rond een uur of acht, negen werd het drukker en drukker op de baan en besloot ik om op verkenning te gaan. Een half uurtje later was ik terug in het dorpje, waar op dat moment een Vlaamse kermis leek te zijn uitgebroken:
Ik deed nog een paar boodschappen voor het tijd was om weer naar ons plekje te gaan en aan de BBQ te beginnen. Mmmm, vlees:
Zo rond een uur of twee begonnen de ploegbussen voorbij te razen, en rond drie uur kwam ook de reclamestoet voorbij. Tegen vier uur kwamen dan de renners zelf. Ik had een setje walkie-talkies meegebracht, en daarmee konden we opeens perfect de ploegleiders bezig horen die hun renners aanmoedigden. Even later verschenen de eersten van achter de bocht, en toen kwam het hele circus voorbijgeraasd: helicopters, moto's, volgwagens, peleton... Enfin, op vijf minuten tijd was alles gepasseerd.
Op de radio konden we nog horen hoe Jelle Vanendert uiteindelijk won, en met de walkie-talkie hoorden we hoe de ploegdirecteur van Garmin hard bezig was Ryder Hesjedal de helling op te praten: "Keep chugging! I owe you one! Good job, Ryder..." Maar goed ook dat hij hem kon overtuigen, want gisteren was Hesjedal zelfs nog derde in de rit naar Gap...
Na de passage van het circus braken we onze tent op en reden we als de bliksem weg... tot we een kilometer verder al stil stonden in de file. Gelukkig was de weg afgesloten voor inkomend verkeer zodat er dubbel zoveel capaciteit was voor uitgaand verkeer. Hierdoor waren we een goed half uur later alweer op weg, richting Millau. 's Nachts hielden we halt in een hotel langs de baan, waar we de laatste kamer hadden (inclusief lopende WC en badkamer met enkel gehandicaptendouche = sproeikop & gat in de grond & de hele badkamer nat bij gebruik). De volgende ochtend hielden we nog heel even halt bij de brug van Millau:
